Occurrence

The species occurs in Europe, beyond the Arctic Circle. In the south, they are also found at higher altitudes. In the British Isles and the Netherlands the species originally widespread species missing is now much less frequently by their chemical control. They are found rarely in wooden constructions in buildings, mainly in softwood, but rarely in the deciduous trees. The flight time is from May to August.

Way of life

As with various other furniture beetle species also plays wood in the life cycle of the beetle Trotzkopf an important role, since it serves as the larval habitat and food. The larvae are dependent on fungal pre-damaged wood. The stubborn will, therefore, ( as, for example, the Pied Furniture Beetle ) as " decaying wood insect" and can be viewed as an indicator of an existing fungus.

The larvae develop in the wood of spruce and pine. The females lay six to eight eggs in about 10 millimeters long passages from the wood. The larvae require two years to develop. The wood is criss-crossed the length and breadth of feeding programs in advanced infestation and has circular exit holes of about two to three millimeters in diameter at the surface. The adults emerge in the fall, but only fly off after a hibernation.

Combat

An attack by the Trotzkopf can greatly accelerate the destruction of pilzbefallenem wood, however, is always a secondary injury dar. priority therefore is removing the cause and fight the fungal infection to be addressed.
