Hadsel

Hadsel is a Norwegian municipality with 8028 inhabitants ( as of March 31, 2013). Of the 566 km ², the municipality is 551 km ² land area.

The municipality is made up of the companies belonging to the Vesterålen islands four Hadseløya, Hinnøya, Langøya and Austvågøy. The central part of the coat of arms of the municipality are accordingly four circles. The islands Hadseløya, Børøya and Langøya are connected by bridges.

The administrative center of the municipality is the place Stokmarknes with a population of about 3200 (2007). Stokmarknes was paid in 2000 to the city. The city is located on the island Hadseløya to live on about 70 % of the total population of the municipality.

Home of Hurtigruten

Stokmarknes is considered birthplace of the Hurtigruten 1881 here Vesterålen Steamship Company was founded as a predecessor of today's Hurigrutengesellschaft of Richard With. Built in 1956 and now discarded Hurtigruten Finnmarken is located in the town right next to the Hurtigruten Museum.
