Haffouz

Haffouz (Arabic حفوز, Ḥaffūz DMG ) is a city in Tunisia. It lies about 40 km west of Kairouan on the highway 12 in Governorate of Kairouan, in the center of the country. In 2004, the Munizip had 8,225 inhabitants. Hafouz is the capital of a delegation with 43,792 inhabitants.

The place is about 300 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains. North of town is the Djebel Ousselat and south of Djebel Trozza that are part of the dorsal fin. Hafouz is a center of agriculture, which mainly olives and almonds are harvested. The necessary water comes from El Haouareb reservoir, fed by the Wadi Merguellil. The annual rainfall in the region averages 300 mm, which fall unevenly and usually vary between 200 and 400 mm.

During the revolution in Tunisia 2010/2011 it came into Haffouz violent clashes between demonstrators and police.
