Hafragilsfoss

The Hafragilsfoss is a waterfall on the river Jökulsá Fjöllum in northeast Iceland.

The waterfall is located about two kilometers north ( downstream ) of the Dettifoss, nearly 30 kilometers from the river mouth into the Arctic Ocean. Here, the valley of Jökulsá combined with the coming of the West Deep Hafragil, after which the case was called. With a height of 27 meters, the Hafragilsfoss is after Dettifoss the second highest waterfall in the river course. The gorge of Jökulsá in the area of ​​Hafragilsfoss is called Hafragilsundirlendi; further below will follow the smaller waterfall Réttarfoss and Vígabjargsfoss which belonged to the most powerful up to a change of the river in 1950 on the river.

The Hafragilsfoss is located in the extreme southeast of the Jökulsárgljúfur National Park. On the right bank 864 is located above the waterfall a vantage point near the road No. The left side is more difficult to achieve, via trails from parking lot west of the Dettifoss out ( diversion of the road No. 862 ).
