Hagen Melzer

Hagen Melzer ( born June 16, 1959 in Bautzen ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympian, the (until 1990 starting for the GDR ) belonged in the 1980s to the early 1990s to the world's best 3000 - meter steeplechase runners.

His greatest successes are the second place at the World Athletics Championships 1987 ( 8:10,32 min ) and the victory at the European Athletics Championships 1986 ( 8:16,65 min).

He held up to 1999 over 3000 meter steeplechase with 8:10,32 min the German record. Only Damian Kallabis improved this.

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he finished tenth in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, he retired in the intermediate run out.

In 1986 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

Hagen Melzer started for the SC Einheit Dresden, after the turn of the Dresdner SC, and trained with Wolfgang Grafe. In its competition time, he was 1.78 m tall and weighed 63 kg. After the end of his athletic career, he worked in the Dresden Sports Office.
