Haibach ob der Donau

Haibach ob der Donau is a town with 1,290 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Upper Austria in Eferding district in Hausruckviertel. The municipality is located in the judicial district Eferding.

Geography

Haibach ob der Donau is located at 528 m altitude in Hausruckviertel. The expansion is 9 km from north to south, from west to east 7.2 km. The total area is 25.6 km ². 45.3 % of the area is forested, 41.4 % of the area is used for agriculture.

Coat of arms

Official description of the municipality coat of arms: With a silver wave beams left diagonally divided; Up In Blue a golden sun rays, down in green a golden Roman Helmet. The municipality colors are blue and yellow.

History

In Roman times the village was Schloegen site of a fort and possibly a naval station of the Danube fleet ( classis Histriae ), see fortlet Schloegen. Originally in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria lying, was the place since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Since 1490 he is the Principality ' Austria above the Enns ' attributed. During the Napoleonic Wars, the place was occupied several times. Since 1918, the community is part of the province of Upper Austria. Culture and sights

  • Conserved residues of the west gate of the Roman fort of Schloegen
  • Stauf castle ruins in background mountain: The castle was built in the mid 12th century and was until 1559 owned by the lords of Schaubergwerk. The medieval castle consists of a keep, the Palais and the fore-castle, of which the main walls are still present.
