Haimar Zubeldia

Haimar Zubeldia Agirre ( born April 1, 1977 in Usurbil, Gipuzkoa ) is a Spanish cyclist.

Career

Born in the Basque Country in 1998 Zubeldia professional with Euskaltel -Euskadi, where his younger brother Joseba stood from 2002 to 2007 under contract, and now runs for Team RadioShack. He had his breakthrough after two years as a pro when he won the overall title of Euskal Bizikleta and a second place in the Dauphiné Libéré. Because he is a good climber and also a very good time trialist, Zubeldia is an ideal-typical round driver. Nevertheless Zubeldias stagnated development in 2001, and in 2002 was not a particularly successful year for him. After all, he was fourth in the Dauphiné Libéré, when he also won the junior championship, and finished eleventh in the Vuelta a España.

For the 2009 season Zubeldia signed with Team Astana a two year contract, but joined together with Lance Armstrong before the 2010 season to its new gegründetem team RadioShack.

Tour de France

In 2003, he first showed his qualities in the Tour de France. Although he was overshadowed by his teammate Iban Mayo, where he obtained a better time trialist the tour, one place ahead Mayo, in fifth place overall. 2007 he managed a comeback: Just like four years ago, the Basque ended the " Great Loop " in fifth and the difficult mountain stage to Port de Balès and Col de Peyresourde third. Overall, he finished with six appearances the Tour three times in the top ten (2003, 2006, 2007 ) and once at No. 15 ( 2005).
