Hairnet

A snood is a most resilient reticulated headdress, which is used to hold the hair in place. Alternatively, the headscarf hair nets are used for reasons of occupational safety. Especially with long hair fixation is required for certain activities. So the hair net prevents the retraction of the hair in a drill and the consequent scalping the scalp. A hair net is also worn for hygienic or medical reasons or as a headdress.

Evidence supporting the wearing of hair nets were already ancient Greece. In northwestern Europe hairnets are in Sprang technique from the woman's grave from Skrydstrup already from the 15./14. Century demonstrated BC, younger findings of hairnets there from the 8th to the 5th century BC to the bog bodies of Haraldskær woman and wife of Arden from Denmark. Further finds there from a garbage pit of the Roman military camp Vindonissa in Switzerland and the Saxon burial ground of Liebenau from the 6th century AD In Germany and England there were hair nets since the 13th century of fine silk.
