Hajnáčka

Hajnáčka ( German Pirsenstein or Hajnatschko, Hungarian Ajnácskő - older even Hajnácskő ) is a town in central Slovakia.

Location

It is located in Cerová Highlands Highlands, in the valley of Gortva brook. The nearest towns are Fiľakovo (13 km to the northwest ) and Rimavská Sobota (25 km north ). The town has a station on the railway line Zvolen, Košice.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1245 as Danuskue. The village grew from a settlement below the castle Pirsenstein ( Hrad Hajnáčka ), which was the seat of Herrschaftsguts. In the wake of the Turkish wars the castle was twice occupied by the Ottomans - 1545/1546 and 1645-1649 - and repeatedly re- attached. Since the 18th century it fell into disrepair and has been a ruin.

Until 1919 the village belonged in the county Gemer and small Hont the Kingdom of Hungary, later it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Because of the First Vienna Award 1938-1945 it belonged again to Hungary and since 1993 has been part of the present-day Slovakia.

Population

According to the controversial 1910 census, the town was a purely Hungarian village with 830 inhabitants. According to the last official census of 2001, there were 1164 inhabitants, 86.3% of Hungarians and Slovaks 12.5% ​​. 97.8 % of residents gave as a confession to Roman Catholic.
