The Japan - dwarf reeds ( Hakonechloa macra ) is a plant of the family Gramineae ( Poaceae ). It is the only species of the genus dwarf reeds ( Hakonechloa ).

Description

The Japan - dwarf reed is a perennial, herbaceous plant, which reaches stature heights of 30 to 75 centimeters. It makes underground runners. The leaf blades are lanceolate, 4-25 cm long, 5-15 mm wide and have a fine tip. The panicle is loose. The spikelets 3 - to 5 - flowered and 1 to 2 inches long.

The flowering season lasts from August to October.

Occurrence

The Japan - dwarf reed comes in central Japan before on Eastern Honshu on moist cliffs in mountain forests.

Use

The Japan - dwarf reed is used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and borders.
