Hakubun Shimomura

Hakubun Shimomura (Japanese下 村 博 文, Shimomura Hakubun; * May 23, 1954 in Kurabuchi, Circle Gunma (now Takasaki ), Gunma Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( Machimura faction ), since 1996 deputy in Shūgiin, the lower house of the national parliament, for the 11th electoral district of Tokyo and since 2012 the cult and science minister in the second cabinet Abe.

Shimomura, a graduate of the Pedagogical Faculty of Waseda University, ran unsuccessfully in the 1985 election Prefecture Parliament in Tokyo Itabashi for the New Liberal Club. In the second attempt, in 1989 he was first elected as an independent candidate with the support of DSP, Social Democratic Federation and Progress Party, confirmed in 1993 for the LDP in office.

In the 1996 election Shūgiin Shimomura moved into national politics. In the newly created Einmandatswahlkreis Tokyo 11 he sat down with 30.1 % of the vote against four other candidates, the constituency he has since been able to defend five times in a row. In the LDP, he joined the faction of Mitsuzuka (later Mori, Machimura faction ).

In government positions Shimomura came under the Cabinets of Jun'ichirô Koizumi ( Machimura faction ): 2002 Shimomura was Parliamentary Secretary ( Daijinseimukan ) in the Ministry of Justice from 2004 to 2005 at the Culture and Science Ministry. In the first cabinet of Koizumi's successor Shinzo Abe ( Machimura faction ), he became in 2006 deputy head of the Cabinet Secretariat.

In the second cabinet Abe Shimomura 2012 was first minister and took over the Education and Science Ministry. In interviews took office, he explained that the Japanese culture and tradition in education should be more emphasized; the LDP election program 2012 saw the right to revise the approval process for history books.
