Haldun Taner ( born March 16, 1915 in Istanbul, † May 7, 1986 ibid ) was one of the most famous Turkish writer. He was also a humorist, playwright and journalist. Taner visited the Galatasaray High School in Istanbul. During his training period, he contracted tuberculosis. Taner studied in Heidelberg political science and German, in Vienna theater studies and German studies in Istanbul. Taner taught at the literature from the University of Istanbul, Istanbul at LCC. His father was the former Ottoman deputies and University Professor Ahmed Selâhattin.

Taner wrote stories, skits, plays, cabaret. Taner wrote Sunday columns in the newspaper Hürriyet. His stories appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers. He also wrote columns for years called Devekuşuna Mektuplar ( "Letters to the ostrich " ) in the newspapers Tercüman and Milliyet. He also founded the Cabaret Devekuşu, the Bizim Theatre, issued a magazine called Küçük dergi and was awarded numerous prizes.

One of his most famous works is the play Keşanlı Ali destani. It was filmed in 1964 by Atıf Yılmaz. For his ironic society stories and his socially critical dramas he is known.
