The Halibut Point State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, which is located north of the city of Rockport in Essex County on the Atlantic Ocean. Managed the park from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR ), an international organization for the conservation of nature.

History

Within the park itself was opened in 1840 called " Babson Quarry ", was mined in the granite from the rock walls. The quarry was closed in 1929 in the wake of the decline of this industry.

After the end of mining, a large part of the land remained unused until a Feuerleitturm was built in the area of the present park in the Second World War. This should provide to the coastal defense of Boston and Portland information about possible targets.

Today, the tower serves as a visitor center and administrative headquarters of the park.

Tourism

The park is now as good as just protected because of the renovated, about 18 meters high Feuerleitturm. The actual " attraction" is located on the adjacent "Sea Rocks ", on which visitors can enjoy a picnic and the views of the Atlantic Ocean.
