Halifax Port Authority

The Port of Halifax is one next to the port of Vancouver at the largest ports in North America. Operators of the port is the state enterprise Halifax Port Authority. The port in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia's capital, Halifax, is hit by cruise ships and cargo ships.

History

In 1912, launched from the port Halifax a rescue mission to rescue some passengers from the sunken Titanic. 190 people were brought and buried to Halifax. 1917 collided off the coast of a French munitions ship ( the Mont Blanc) and a Belgian ship flying the Norwegian flag ( the Imo ). The explosion 2000 people were killed and another 9,000 injured.

1928 Port of arrival for a million immigrants was opened. 1955 Andus - L. MacDonald Bridge and the pier -A1 was opened. In 1962, the Bedford Institute of Oceanography ( BIO) was opened. 1969/1970 the first International Container Terminal was opened in Halifax. In addition, the A. Murray MacKay Bridge - was opened. In 1981, the Fairview Cove container terminal was opened in 1982 and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. In 1986, the expansion of the Fairview Cove container terminal. 1995, met the leaders of the Group of Seven to the G7 Summit in Halifax. 2000 Heads the largest passenger ships in Halifax.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure in the Halifax Port Authority ( HPA):

  • The South End Container Terminal, Piers 36-42 ( operated by the Halterm Limited)
  • The Ocean Terminals, Piers 23-34
  • The Seaport ( also called as Seawall ), Piers 20-22, Cruise Ship Pavilion and Pier 21 Museum, branch of NSCAD University, HPA administration building
  • Halifax Grain Elevator, leased and operated by the Halifax Grain Elevator Limited
  • Richmond Terminals, Piers 9 and 9A
  • Richmond Offshore Terminals, Piers 9B- 9D ( stock / refinery for petroleum products )
  • Fairview Cove Container Terminal is operated by Cerescorp

The following facilities are not in possession of the Halifax Port Authority ( HPA):

  • National Gypsum yard - ( operated by the National Gypsum Company)
  • Woodside Atlantic shipyard - (ship repairs as well as repairs of drilling rigs)
  • Imperial Oil - petroleum - bearing ( Imperial Oil delivers the Dartmouth refinery )
  • Car Port - the port to the car train brand-new vehicles to dealerships in North America by rail ( operated by the CN Rail), rail links with Montreal, Toronto, Detroit and Chicago.

Cruise tourism

The Port of Halifax is approached generally in the period from April to November each year by cruise ships that are operated from a total of 19 cruise lines, including from the AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
