Halimeda ghost pipefish

Halimeda Ghost Pipefish ( Solenostomus halimeda )

The Halimeda Ghost Pipefish ( Solenostomus halimeda ) is known from numerous localities in the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific from the Maldives to the Marshall Islands. He lives in shallow water to depths of 15, maximum to 23 meters. With a maximum length of about 6.5 inches is the smallest representative of the ghost pipefish. What is striking is his big head, which reaches approximately the length of the residual body (excluding tail). The caudal fin is small and has the form and size of the first dorsal fin and the pelvic fins. Halimeda ghost pipefish often stay on between green algae of the genus Halimeda or between corals and other algae. Their color is adapted to their environment, but can also be bright red or green.

As with all ghost pipefish are the females with their pelvic fins a brood pouch and carry the eggs until hatching of juveniles around with you.
