Halkomelem, also Halq'eméylem, Hul'qumi'num 'and H? N'q ?' Min '? M' is a language of the Indian tribes who live on the Fraser River and at the southern end of Vancouver Iceland in British Columbia. Halkomelem part of the Salish language family and is closely related to the idiom of Squamish, Sechelt and Nooksack.

The term Halkomelem is the English version of a language that consists of three different dialects:

In 1977, Brent Galloway of the University of California at Berkeley, the first Grammar of Upriver - Halkomelem together and developed the now official orthography of the Sto: lo language. He is currently working on a Halkomelem dictionary. According to Galloway summarize some Halkomelem words " the whole cultural knowledge together." The language expresses an oral tradition that reflects a complete world view and the quite different from that of English or other European languages.

Halkomelem was almost extinct, because the Native American children were forcibly sent to residential schools set up by whites. In 2000 it was estimated that the speaker, fluent in Halkomelem controlled to less than a dozen, according to other sources to less than 100 then language programs were developed to rescue the language for which the Sto: lo Nation, the Seabird Iceland First Nation and Cowichan First Nation were responsible. An adult program for members of the Musqueam created by the collaboration between the stem and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
