Hallau

Hallau ( officially until 1934 called Unterhallau ) is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland. The wine-growing community located in Unterklettgau Valley north of the Rhine. The municipality also the hamlet Wunderklingen heard on the other side of the Hallauer mountain.

History

In 1064 Hallau is the first time mentioned. Compared to other towns in the region, this is relatively late, but perhaps this is only because an older certificate was lost. The municipality acquired in 1457 by Junkernheinrich of Erzingen the place Wunderklingen in which Hallau henceforth exercised the lower courts. 1491 Hill Church St Moritz was built. The village church of St. Moritz, also erroneously called St. Ulrich, existed much longer, such as archaeological investigations showed 1954. 1526 Oberhallau separated from Hallau ( Unterhallau ) and formed its own community. 1547 was the first time the 16 flags mentioned, in which all able-bodied Hallauer were divided for the defense of the village. Today, the 16 flags live in the Hallauer table cooperatives on. 1564, 1611 and 1629 raged in Hallau the plague. 1629 the first Hallauer church book was created. 1713 Oberhallau also sparked church of the municipality Hallau. 1831 attracted the Hallauer armed before the town of Schaffhausen in order to enforce their will on the new constitution. 1853 the local museum was founded by Johann Georg pounds. 1895 was built in Wunderklingen the water and power plant Hallau ( WEH).

Hallau counts with the most famous wine regions of Switzerland and is part of the pinot noir country.

Coat of arms

About the origin of the coat of arms of Hallau nothing sure is known. Probably comes the coat of arms from that of the provincial governor Henry of Luetzel Huser, in the nine parishes Vogt was 1370-1373, and thus also ruled over Hallau. It was at that time the Bishop of Constance was involved with the city in disputes in which it Neunkirch proven financially helped. School

Since 1508 the house of the chaplain was also at the same school building until 1851 and in use, it was called The Learnings and 1926 was canceled. Outside the saying was painted:

Already in 1643 a school regulations of the priest Theodosius Indikohver is obtained.

Fossil finds

Based on preliminary work of the geologist Ferdinand Schalch Bernhard Peyer began in 1942 with excavations, with teeth of Morganucodon were found, the complete assignment succeeded 1978/1979 William A. Clemens.

  • Local museum Hallau at the village church of St. Moritz, inter alia, with historical weapons collection -functioning lead typesetting machine and Rokokotäfer from the rectory.
