Hallingdal Museum

Hallingdal Museum is on the one hand an open air museum in Nesbyen, Nes municipality in Hallingdal in the Norwegian province Buskerud. It was founded in 1899 by the Agriculture Director Gudbrandsdølen Tandberggegründet as Hallingdal Folk Museum and is one of the oldest open-air museums in Norway.

The museum is located on the Rukkedøla waterfalls. It has 30 historic buildings and 30,000 artifacts from the region. Particularly noteworthy is a Staveloftet, ie a granary, about the year 1340. He is one of the best preserved secular wooden houses from the Middle Ages. Another rarity is an emigrant house, which was built in North Dakota in 1882 by emigrants Ole Svendsen Skrattegard.
