Hamadab

The ancient city Hamadab located about 3 km south of Meroe and therefore almost a suburb of Meroe, also an uninhabited ruins are called.

The ruins today consists of two hills (200 x 250 m and 250 x 500 m), making it roughly the same size as Meroe. The two hills are separated by a branch of the Nile, which in winter leads but no water. They are about four feet higher than the land on the banks of the Nile. In the northeast of the two settlements, a temple was excavated in 1914, before there were two stelae of Queen Amanirenas and Akinidad. The revered God in the temple is unknown. It has been suggested Amun.

Recent excavations in Hamadab been held since 2001. Thus, the urban area was densely built up with mud-brick houses and surrounded by a wall. Their origins are unknown. The city seems to have been abandoned in the 4th century AD.
