History

The station was opened on 1 May 1897 as the main railway station of the city of Harburg. The designs provided by the architect Hubert bull. He replaced the old Harburg station of 1872, in the direction of the Elbe bridges on the pit road: lay (now Hanover Street ). Was a freight station for cargo and express Ancient Harburg Bahnhof. The area between the eastern and western railway station channel is now broke trackless. The Ladestrasse and goods shed are still existent today. The new central station was at the same time instead of the lower Elbe 's railway station (1881-1984) to the starting point of the Lower Elbe train to Cuxhaven.

The name Harburg Hauptbahnhof he retained until 1927, after which he was called to 1938 Harburg -Wilhelmsburg Central Station.

On October 18, 2003, came following a cable fire in the S -Bahn tunnel to a million damage. People were not injured. The S -Bahn between Harburg Rathaus and William Castle was suspended until 27 October 2003.
