Hamburg is a borough in Berks County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. In Hamburg 4114 inhabitants. The population density is 854 inhabitants / km ².

Geography

Hamburg is located in eastern Pennsylvania and is the most northerly borough of the county. Hamburg is located on the Schuylkill River and is surrounded by farmland. The village is located 24 km north of Reading and 111 kilometers west of Philadelphia. Hamburg has an area of 5.2 km ², of which 0.4 km ² water surface.

History

Hamburg was founded under the name of Martin Kaercher Jr. Kaerchertown 1787. The current name comes from German immigrants and is derived from the northern German city of Hamburg.

Traffic

Through Hamburg lead in east-west direction together to extend Interstate 78 and U.S. Highway 22; Pennsylvania State Route 61 leads in a north-south direction to the west past the settlement area.
