Hamburg state election, 1966

On March 27, 1966, the election for the 6th term of the Parliament of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg ( state election ) was held. This article deals with the choice of the allocation of seats and the most important issues of the election period. The SPD won with 59% of votes and an absolute majority, the best result since the Second World War. There were 120 members posted at the election to the citizenry.

Government

The SPD presented after two terms in a coalition with the FDP in the 6th term, the government alone. Dr. Herbert soft man stood first mayor a second time at the head of the Hamburg Senate. The post of second mayor took Wilhelm Drexelius. The full Senate was presented and sworn in the second plenary meeting, on 27 April 1966. Main topics during the 6th legislature

Focus of the work of citizenship were mainly in the areas of property, education, home affairs, as well as construction and housing.

One of the main areas of current political debate were the student unrest and the opposition outside of parliament. An over -year planned university reform law could be adopted. Women's quota

Of the 120 deputies of the citizenry were 18 female ( 15%). 12 were selected for the SPD in parliament, 5 for the CDU and one for the FDP. There were fewer female MPs than in the 5th term (21 women) but more than in the following, (14).
