The Hamburg High Bahn AG (own spelling: HOCHBAHN ) is a transport company in Hamburg. Previously, the company used enhances the abbreviation HHA. The elevated railway operator is part of a large part of Hamburg's bus network as well as the sole operator of the U -Bahn Hamburg.

The elevated railway is Germany's second largest public transport company and the largest service provider in the Hamburg Transport Association. In 2012, the elevated train carried about 431 million passengers ( bus: 222 m, Subway: 209 million) and employed 4551 employees. The company is located on the Hamburg Society for Asset and Investment Management are wholly owned by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

History

The Hamburg elevated railway, overhead railway or HHA short, was founded on May 27, 1911 in the form of a joint stock company as a consortium between Siemens & Halske and AEG. She's since 1912, private operators of the then newly built Elevated Railway, the first Chairman of the Board was Albert Ballin. The city of Hamburg leased the railway facilities of the company, which was performed according to private sector principles. The first elevated railway in 1912, taken with the ring line, today's U -Bahn line U3 in operation.

The HHA took over 1918/19, the street railway company in Hamburg ( SEGH ), 1923 the Hamburg- Altona Central Railway (HAC ) and 1924, the Small electric train Alt- Rahlstedt - folk village - Wohldorf ( EKV ).

The subsidiary vehicle Falkenried (FFG ) developed earlier and waited on the former premises at Falkenried the tram. At the headquarters in Hummelsbüttel and four other workshops on the depots of the elevated railway it is today as a full- service provider of high- Bahn and many other responsible for maintenance and repair of the bus fleet.

On April 1, 1919, the company took over the operation of the Alster ships from the Alster Lake Steamship GmbH. From 1924 to 1935, however, she transferred the technical operation of the barge business Lütgens & Reimers. In 1977, the founding of the ATG Alster -Touristik with a new focus on excursion, tour and tourist facilities on the Outer and Inner Alster.

In 1965, the elevated train one of the founding members of the Hamburg Transport HVV was - the first traffic network worldwide. 1978 carried the overhead railway with 1800 vehicles on 111 450 000 car or ship kilometers 398.2 million passengers, of which 175.8 million passengers on the operation part underground, 221 million to the bus sector and 1.4 million to the Alster waterways. In addition, 8.5 million passengers came from the tram set on 1 October 1978.

For many years, the elevated train listed on the stock market and paid outside shareholders a guaranteed dividend. Following the amendment of the Companies Act with simplified options of a squeeze -out free shareholders were reconciled, so that the units now fully owned by the Hamburg Society for asset and investment management.

Tram

The elevated railway also operated the tram in Hamburg until it was decommissioned in 1978. In early 2009 the company was officially entrusted by the Ministry of Urban Development and Environment with the planning of the city Bahn Hamburg, which was, however, returned after a change of government in Hamburg.
