Changes

The Hamburg Transport Association was founded on 29 November 1965 as merger of four transport companies in the Hamburg area; to 1996, some more companies joined. On December 1, 1966, the common fare of the HVV came into force, so most public transport in Hamburg and the surrounding areas could now be used with a ticket. Until 1984, also by the HHA (or from 1977 the Alster -Touristik GmbH ATG) Alster ships were operated included in the composite.

In 1996, the HVV was restructured: a composite of the PTA public transport was from the interconnection of transport companies ( public transport ). Shareholders are now the states of Hamburg, Schleswig -Holstein and Lower Saxony and the seven adjoining Hamburg (land ) circles.

By 14 December 2002, the HVV area comprised only the City of Hamburg and the surrounding countryside ( borderline Wedel - Elmshorn - Barmstedt - Cold Churches - Kisdorf - Wilstedt - Ahrensburg - Trittau - Basthorst - Lauenburg - Seevetal - New Wulmstorf - Jork ). Since the expansion of the composite area on 15 December 2002, the territory of the districts of Pinneberg, Segeberg, Stormarn and Lauenburg includes the north complete; it 's enough to just before Neumünster and Lübeck. As part of this expansion also several regional rail lines were integrated into the HVV.

In December 2004 came with the winter timetable 2004/2005 the expansion of the federation area in the south to the Lower Saxon districts of Stade, Harburg and Lüneburg in force. For the district of Lüneburg belonging right bank of the municipality Amt Neuhaus, which has no continuous public transport connection to the rest of HVV area, a special provision was then decided the effect that HVV season cards are accepted in local buses, but not single and day tickets.

With the timetable change in December 2004, a one-year trial period has started, during the drive through the high-speed trains and major bus lines on weekend nights in the city of Hamburg at the same time. After it came in the sample phase to a tripling of passengers on weekend nights, the night passage of U- and S-Bahn will be continued indefinitely.

In December 2007, the line S3 ( " Harburg S -Bahn " ) of Neugraben Buxtehude Stade up was (see: Lower Elbe Railway ) extended.

Since 1 January 2008, up from Soltau and the weekly, monthly and annual tickets HVV.

Since December 2008, trains on the S1 line from Central Station in 25 minutes to Hamburg Airport, where the trains are winged at the Ohlsdorf: the front part of the train goes to station Hamburg Airport ( Airport ), the rear part goes to Poppenbuettel. The existing Airport Express bus called 110 has been superseded, but is partially replaced on weekend nights through the new line 274. The new range of S1 Ohlsdorf - Airport is not operated at night, on the other hand, the continuous night-time operation was on the high-speed railway lines on track Ochs inch - extended Norderstedt mid- U1.

On Monday, 29 June 2009, the eastbound branches of the U -Bahn lines U2 and U3 were exchanged. Now, the line runs U3 of Barmbek on the old loop line to Barmbek. The U2 runs from north to Niendorf Mümmelmannsberg. Since 29 November 2012, the line runs U4.

Tasks

The staff of the HVV constantly monitor the volume of traffic served in the Community tariff lines ( passenger count). Based on the data obtained in the schedule for the following year will be created.

The information collected by the participating carrier fares to 1996 divided according to the work done by the respective companies passenger kilometers ( " supply-driven " ), since 1997 will be divided per passenger numbers ( " demand-driven "). Cost not covered by fare revenue expenses of the transport companies are to be borne by the PTAs.

A side effect of this division of duties between the transport companies and the transport system is that operational inputs and Aussetzfahrten not appear in the published timetable. The square kilometer here offered are not legitimized by the needs assessment and will not be billed. Examples are the voyages of the S11 between Ohlsdorf and Poppenbuettel as well as the journeys of the U3 ( signposted as U1) between Wandsbek Garden City and Farmsen.

Community tariff

Tariff area

The pay scale of the HVV is divided into five tariff rings (A to E), which in turn consist of individual zones. The fare depends on single tickets and day tickets on the number of traversed rings and at other time cards by the number of zones traveled through. In turn defined speed limits, which do not necessarily coincide with the zone limits apply for short-range and short-range cards.

Be observed at the vending machine: The numbers of the keys indicate their price levels. For historical reasons, the price levels always carry a higher number by 1 than the number of rings for which the ticket is valid. The price ranges 1 and 2 shall apply exclusively within the large area of Hamburg for short-distance local area maps, respectively. Tickets for individual rings are not offered.

A special feature of the HVV is that unlike most German transport associations from ticket purchase are valid and are not depreciated separately before each ride. The HVV therefore provides also does not depend abstempelbaren multi-trip tickets to, as are stock purchases not possible.

Greater Hamburg Area

The large area includes the state of Hamburg and close sphere of Hamburg ( ring A B). The metro network is entirely within the large area, the S- Bahn network largely.

Total area

The total area includes the Greater Hamburg Area (HH ) and

The Lower Saxon counties:

And the Schleswig-Holstein circles:

The payment of a premium authorized to use the first class in regional trains and express buses.

Assessment

The ADAC in 2001 resulted in a test, was in the public transport in 20 European cities (10 of them in Germany ) was investigated. Here, the HVV was named best German transport association with a grade of "Good". Only Barcelona and Brussels were rated " very good". In a 2009 test conducted in 23 European cities, the Hamburg Transport Association was able to place a good rating on the fifth.
