Hamdorf

Hamdorf (Danish Hammeltorp ) is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography

Hamdorf is located in the north of the Eider Geest, about 15 km southwest of Rendsburg. Hamdorf is surrounded by meadows and scattered moorland and forest areas. The main highway is the main road 203 in the direction of Rendsburg and heath.

History

The area around Hamdorf was inhabited in pre-Christian times, as excavations and grave finds show. Is mentioned in a document Hamdorf the first time as " Hammathorp " in a document of 1285 in which it was awarded the Danish crown. Belonging to South Schleswig, Hamdorf came in 1864 after the Second Schleswig War to Prussia.
