Hamilton Fincups

The Hamilton Fincups were a Canadian ice hockey team from Hamilton, Ontario. The team played from 1974 to 1978 in the Ontario Hockey Association ( OHA ).

History

The Hamilton Fincups were founded in 1974 and were in accordance with the Hamilton Tigers, Hamilton Tiger Cubs and the Hamilton Red Wings of the four teams from Hamilton, who were active in the Ontario Hockey Association. Already in its first season, the team was able to achieve a positive balance game and gain 37 victories, 24 defeats and 9 draws in 70 games. The future NHL player Dale McCourt, selected at the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 as the first overall by the Detroit Red Wings, scoring in 69 games total of 126 points scorer. However, he was far behind Bruce Boudreau, who scored 165 points for the Toronto Marlboros.

In the following season the team was able to increase the yield points and collect a total of 94 meters and thus are the second best team in the regular season behind the Sudbury Wolves. The team prevailed in the play- offs in 1976 and won both the Emms Trophy as well as the J. Ross Robertson Cup. In addition, in the same year, winning the Memorial Cup with a win against the New Westminster Bruins was assured. After the 1975/76 season, the home ground of Fincups, the Barton Street Arena, was demolished and the franchise then moved for one season to St. Catharines, where it participated under the name St. Catharines Fincups the game operation. The team set with 50 victories, 11 defeats and 5 draws the most points playing time of franchises and once again won the Emms Trophy. In the play-offs the Fincups failed in the semi-finals against the London Knights. In the season 1977/78 the team again reached the semi-finals and lost time against the Peterborough Petes.

In 1978, the franchise has been to Brantford, Ontario, relocated, where, under the name Brantford Alexanders was then active in the OHL.
