Criticism
" Zeffirelli focuses on the conflict of a man who is by nature a man of action and is overthrown by the throat job to a existential crisis. Without radical new approaches in the interpretation, but convincing by good craftsmanship and a high-caliber ensemble of actors. "
Background
With period costumes and scenery Hamlet was filmed with a budget of 20 million U.S. $ at venues Dover Castle, Dunnottar Castle and Blackness Castle.
The dialogues were adopted 1:1 and little room for interpretations made in order to realize the drama as authentic as possible and as in Romeo and Juliet.
Comments
- Both Zeffirelli and Gibson have made a name for himself as a director of a Jesus film. Zeffirelli filmed in 1977 Jesus of Nazareth, Gibson 2004 The Passion of the Christ.
- A film bug affects the choice of the film set for Helsingor. While in truth Helsingør has a flat landscape, it is shown hilly in the film.
