Hamlet (1996 film)

Hamlet is a literary adaptation by Kenneth Branagh in 1996 and is based on the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. It is a very elaborate production. Unlike other literary adaptations, the original dialogues from Shakespeare were taken unabridged here. Prince Hamlet appears the ghost of his murdered father, which prompts him to take revenge on Claudius, his uncle, to take. It comes at a terrible mistake, Hamlet stabs Polonius, the father of his beloved Ophelia.

The production costs at about 18 million U.S. dollars, however, the film grossed only 4.7 million U.S. dollars.

Awards (selection)

The film was nominated for the Academy Awards 1997 in four categories for the Oscars: Production Design, Costume Design, Music ( Original Dramatic Score ) and Adapted Screenplay, but could not win any prizes.

Kate Winslet was honored for her performance in 1998 with the Empire Award for Best British Actress.

Criticism

The lexicon of the International film ruled that the production as " no single directorial style " on. " [ T] he excellent acting performances " would be to keep boredom despite " unmistakable [r ] directorial [r ] inconsistencies and weaknesses ."
