Hammie Nixon

Hammie Nixon ( born January 22, 1908 in Brownsville, Tennessee; † August 17, 1984 in Jackson, Tennessee) was an American blues musician, one of the early virtuoso on the harmonica.

In addition to the Blues Harp played Nixon kazoo, guitar and the Jug (see Jug Band ). For over 50 years he entered again and again with Sleepy John Estes. Their first recording together they made in 1929. Nixon also made recordings with Little Buddy Doyle, Lee Green, Charlie Pickett and Son Bonds.

Hammie Nixon established the harmonica, which was previously a solo instrument, as accompaniment and rhythm instrument for bands. He played at numerous Jug bands, for example, in his later years at the Beale Street Jug Band. He made his last recording in 1984 shortly before his death.
