Hampton Gulls

The Hampton Gulls were an American ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League in Hampton, Virginia. The venue for the Gulls was the Hampton Coliseum.

History

The Hampton Gulls were established in 1974 as a franchise of the Southern Hockey League. There she acted as a farm team of the Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association. After the SHL was disbanded in 1977, the Hampton Gulls were given the opportunity as expansion team in the American Hockey League to change. Even during the season 1977/78 the team had set the game mode and the franchise was disbanded, however, due to financial difficulties in the higher league.

Previously played in the region already the Virginia Wings of the AHL ( 1972-1975 ). The gap left by the dissolution of the Hampton Gulls in the region, was of the Hampton Road Gulls of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (1982-1983), the Hampton Roads Admirals from the East Coast Hockey League (1989-2000) and finally the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (since 2000) filled.
