Hampton Roads Admirals

The Hampton Roads Admirals were an American Hockey franchise from Norfolk, Virginia. The venue of the Admirals was the Norfolk Scope.

History

The franchise was founded in 1989 and took his game mode in the ECHL. Head coach was John Brophy, who led the Admirals in the following eleven seasons. The admiral reached in their debut season in 60 games as many points with which they occupied the fifth rank of their group and failed to qualify for the play- offs. In the first round they lost the Erie Panthers in just five games. In the following season, the Admirals won 82 points and won the East Division. In the play-offs in succession were the Richmond Renegades, Johnstown Chiefs and Greensboro Monarchs defeated and the Admirals won for the first time Kelly Cup. The Hampton Roads Admirals in the 1991/92 season succeeded as the first team to successfully defend the Kelly Cup. The final series against the Louisville Icehawks was recovered in only four games.

In the following five seasons, the Admirals qualified through the play- offs, more than the second round was doing but not achieved. In the season 1997/98 the admiral reached the play-offs only the narrowest of margins with 74 points, did not qualify Columbus Chill were only one point behind the Hampton Roads Admirals. In the play-offs surprised the admiral and after victories against the Peoria Rivermen, Roanoke Express, Wheeling Nailers and Pensacola Ice Pilots won the Admiral their third Kelly Cup. The last two seasons ended as most of the Admirals, the team qualified again for the play-offs to more than a place in the third round but was no longer there. In 2000, the franchise was dissolved and replaced by the Norfolk Admirals, recorded the game operation in the American Hockey League.
