Han Berger

Career

1976-1983

Berger's first coach station on January 1, 1976, the FC Utrecht. There he took over from January Rab. Previously, he had been since the 1972/73 season, assistant coach of the team. Seven years he supervised the team as head coach. This brand has been broken by any other Utrecht coach. His best finish the team reached under Bergers Director 1980/81, as the third rank was earned. This remained until today (as of 2009), the best finish in club history. This led the coach to the FCU to the first UEFA Cup participation. After a 2-1 win and a 1:3 - leg loss, the club retired in the second round against Eintracht Frankfurt.

1983-1991

1983 Berger was replaced by Welshman Barry Hughes. He joined the FC Groningen, he oversaw the next three years. 1983/84 also played this club for the first time in the UEFA Cup. But, as in Utrecht, was in the second round again terminus than one Inter Milan had to admit defeat. In the league they played regularly in the first third of the table. Larger success did not materialize, however. 1986, secured the services of AZ Alkmaar coach. After only half a year, Berger left the AZ again. New employer was Fortuna Sittard. But even here, it held the football coach not long and Berger pulled it after six months returned to FC Utrecht. There he was three years active, but could not build on the past successes. Finally, it moved Berger 1989/90 again to Fortuna Sittard. After a good first year, the club had to orient down in 1991, which prompted to go separate ways.

1991-2000

Shortly after the start of the 1991/92 season Berger was released in October 1991. Nevertheless, he was not unemployed. After a short pause, in 1992 he became Neutrainer at relegation-threatened FC Dordrecht in March. The league did not make it and it took Berger to league rival Sparta Rotterdam. With Sparta, the coach found mostly in the lower mid-table again. For the first time Berger finally joined the Eerste Divisie and supervised from now on the SC Cambuur - Leeuwarden. 1997 and 1998 reached to the second place in the league, but just sat down in 1998 to qualify for the Eredivisie by. There then finally parted again the paths of coach and team. Berger accepted an offer of the KNVB to manage the U21 of the country. He held two years this job. Due to failure in the group stage for the U -21 Football Championship in 2000 Berger's contract was not renewed.

Since 2000

After eleven years now he rejoined the FC Utrecht and supervised this as a technical sports director. In 2004, he sat down again on the bench. In his only season he was committed abroad by Japanese club Oita Trinita. In 2005 he returned to the Netherlands and accompanied the post of technical director at De Graafschap Doetinchem VBV. After three years got in the Australian Association for the same position in the Australian national team. There he took the place of Robert Baan, who resigned earlier. Berger's contract is valid for four years.
