Han Gan

Han Gan (Chinese韩 干/韩 干, Pinyin Hán Gan; * 706, † 783 ) was a Chinese painter of the Tang Dynasty. According to historical records, he was in Chang'an ( Shaanxi province) or Daliang (Henan Province) born to a poor family. In his early years Wang Wei realized, a famous poet, Hans talent and furthered his art education. After his studies painter Han was at the imperial court.

He painted numerous portraits and pictures with Buddhist themes, but he is best known for his paintings of horses. He is rumored that he portrayed not only the outward appearance of a horse but also its spirit. His reputation grew and soon surpassed the his teacher. Horse painters of later generations, he served as a role model.
