Hanan Shield

The Hanan Shield is a prestigious trophy in the New Zealand Rugby Union. He was held for the first time in 1946. The Hanan Shield is based on a challenge system, like the Ranfurly Shield and is discharged between the provinces of North Otago, South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury. The province, which holds the title, the Shield to defend in challenge matches and if a challenger defeats them, this is the new defenders of the Shield.

The current owner is Hanan Shield Mid Canterbury, the North Otago defeated on October 6, 2007, 25-22. In order for the team for the first time since 1998, won in a heavily debated meeting, in front of a record audience in its Oamaru 's Centennial Arena, the Shield.
