Hancock County (Indiana)

Hancock County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greenfield.

Geography

The County is located just east of the geographic center of Indiana and has an area of 794 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Madison County, Henry County, Rush County, Shelby County, Marion County and Hamilton County.

History

Hancock County was formed on January 26, 1827 from parts of Madison County. It was named for John Hancock, the first signer of the Declaration of Independence.
