Hancock County (Iowa)

The Hancock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 11,341 inhabitants and a population density of 7.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Garner, named after one of the conductors of the Milwaukee Road railroad company.

History

The Hancock County was formed on 15 January 1851. It was named for John Hancock (1737-1793), a signer of the Declaration of Independence and President of the Continental Congress.

1858, the first elections were held in Hancock County. The first county seat was in the Amsterdam Township and a judicial and administrative building was planned, but this was reversed by a change of government in the county.
