Hancock County (Maine)
Hancock County is a county located in the state of Maine in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Ellsworth.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,089 square kilometers. Of these, 1,977 square kilometers, according to 32.47 per cent, of water. The county is bordered clockwise to the County: Penobscot County, Washington County and Waldo County.
Parts of the rocky coast of the county since 1916 by the Acadia National Park ( originally Sieur de Monts National Monument, later named Lafayette National Park ) opened up to tourists.

According to the census of 2000, there were 51 791 people in the county. There were 21 864 households, and 14,233 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.61 % White, 0.25 % African American, 0.37 % Native American, 0.38 % Asian, 0.03 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 0.20 % from other races groups; 1.15% were descended from two or more races. 0.65 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 21 864 households out of which 28.20 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.50 % were married couples living together, 8.10 % had a female householder with no husband. 34.90 % were non-families. 27.90% of all households were individuals and 11.60 % had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.81 persons.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 22.30 % under the age of 18, 7.40 % from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44 years, 26.80 % between 45 and 64 years and 16.00% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 95.70 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.10 males.
The median income for a household was $ 35,811, and the median income for a family was $ 43,216. Males have a median income of $ 30,461, women $ 22,647. The per capita income was $ 19,809. 10.20% of the population and 7.00% of families are below the poverty line. 11.90% of those under age 18 and 9.50% were 65 years or older.
