Hand truck

The sack truck or hand truck, usually simply called in Austria bag toboggan or sled, is a two-wheeled cart to carry loads. The wheel hub is at the same time mechanically fulcrum.

In addition to the eponymous transport of sacks, depending on the version of the cart, articles of different kinds such as packages or crates are moved. According to the intended use, the carts are different (also called load-receiving means, shovel, scoop or platform ) in length and shape of the support angle. The support bracket can be folded down. Modern hand trucks are solid rubber or pneumatic tires. Earlier carts had cast iron wheels. To transport heavy items such as washing machines down stairs there are carts ( stair climber ) with star wheels (usually 3, rarely 5 wheels), which roll on the stairs, even with an electric drive and a special climbing mechanism.

The frames of most carts are made of steel tube, stainless steel or aluminum. In rare cases, there are also wooden frame. Since the early 1990s, there are collapsible hand trucks. A special type of hand truck is the Caretto.
