The Handball - Club Leipzig eV (HCL ) is a successful German women's handball club from Leipzig and is one of the most traditional women's handball clubs in Germany. The HC Leipzig plays in the German Bundesliga for women. In 2010 the team for the sixth time in club history the total German Championship won. The home ground is the Leipzig Arena with a capacity of 7,600 spectators.

Club Data

The HCL is a pure woman handball club, playing with the first team in the 1st Bundesliga. The second team, also known as " Junior Team " plays in the Regionalliga Süd and consists mostly of players from the A- youth. The club is known nationally for its excellent youth development and relies on continuous training in all age groups.

From 2002 to 2004 the HCL lined up between Christmas and New Year's Eve is one of the most star-studded women's handball tournaments in the world, the Handball master. In 2004 the tournament was an appreciation by the European Handball Federation (EHF ) and was the venue for the inaugural " Club Team Championship " - with the award of the official European title for club teams.

History

The Handball - Club Leipzig was founded in November 1999, the sporty origin of the club goes back much further, however. Founded as a locomotive SC Leipzig, the club in 1963 was transferred to the newly established SC Leipzig. Here the celebrated name predecessor to 1992 with 14 DDR - championship titles, two Cup victories and four European Cup victories, the greatest successes of the club's history.

After the dissolution of the SC Leipzig ladies handball section moving to re-founded VfB Leipzig. However, this came in the late 90, by increasing financial problems. In order for the Handball section of the club, the only sporty as financially successful division of the VfB, could not be affected by the threat of insolvency, it was decided in late 1999 to separate from VfB Leipzig and founded the HCL own club.

In 2005, signed a cooperation agreement with the second division side SV Union Halle- Neustadt. The cooperation shall focus mainly on the training and training methodology, as well as regular joint training sessions in the women's and junior level.

In the 2009/10 season of HC Leipzig, celebrated against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, sixth all-German Championship, which they again qualified to participate in the EHF Champions League. In the DHB Cup they reached the quarter-finals, where one against the eventual winner, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, retired. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season we undertook with Anne Müller, Rannveig Haugen and Louise Lyksborg three new players. But the season was less successful than the previous year. One could indeed defeat VfL Sindelfingen in two games in the quarterfinals of the German Cup. But then failed in the semi-final on Buxtehude SV. It was three years since the first final, which was held without participation of Leipzig. In the Champions League, it was the same as a year earlier. In the group stage could be all three away games against Itxako Reyno De Navarra, Hypo Niederösterreich Austria and DVSC- Korvex, win and moved therefore into the main round. But one difference there again without even having won a point. Top scorer this year was Karolina Kudlacz with 79 hits in 12 games. The last chance was in the DHB Cup. There they met on May 21 in the semifinals of the Thüringer HC and lost with 22:26. In the small final to beat the then second division HSG Bensheim / Auerbach narrowly 23:22. Thus, the HC Leipzig was qualified for next season just for the Europa Cup Winners' Cup. The Junior team took third place in the newly created 3rd league. Also the A- youth of the HCL celebrated for the second time in a row winning the South German championship. At 11-12. June won at the German Championship of Blomberg 's youth. They sat down, in the final of Final Fours, against TSG Ketch with by 29:28. At the end of the season Heine Jensen left the club to act as German national coach. For Stefan Madsen was announced as the successor for the new season. At the end of the season Maike Daniels, Sara Eriksson, Renate urn, Mette Ommundsen and Mary Kiedrowski left the club.

For the season 2011/12 they picked Saskia Long, Maura Visser, Anne Hubinger and Alexandra Mazzucco. Some of the players are now being used in Junioerteam. In addition, Mette Ommundsen returned after hurting the squad during the season many players.
