The rural community Hanila ( Hanila vald ) is in Lääne the west of the Republic of Estonia.

Description

Hanila is the southernmost country community of the district. Its area is 232 km ². It has 1,373 inhabitants ( 1 January 2012).

In the village Hanila a museum was opened in 1993. It mainly deals from ethnographic perspective with the local textile and jewelry arts. In addition, the historical life of the peasant society Läänemaas is presented.

Nature

West of the rural community of the Baltic Sea extends. To Hanila includes the Ferry Virtsu. From it performs a ferry to the island Muhu, which is connected by a causeway with the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa. The coast in front are numerous smaller islands. Numerous boulders and small bays line the coast.

40 % of the land area is covered by forest. Inland there are numerous Moore. In the rural community of four nature reserves are reported. The nature reserve of Puhtu - Laelatu ( Puhtu - Laelatu looduskaitseala ) is part of the National Park Matsalu.

On the peninsula Puhtu the District Carl Thure von Helwig (1741-1810) was the late 18th century to build a plant with a summer house in the Chinese style. There were also lined with sculptures avenues that could create the artistic and cultural patron. 1813 there, the world's first surviving monument to Friedrich Schiller was built.

In addition to the main town and administrative center Komsi for rural community includes the villages Äila, Esivere, Hanila, Karuse, Kaseküla, Kause, Kinksi, Kiska, Kokuta, Kuke, Kõera, Linnuse, Lõo, Massu, Mõisaküla, Mäense, Nehatu, Nurmsi, Pajumaa, Pivarootsi, Rame, Rannaküla Ridase, Salevere, Ullaste, Vatla, Virtsu and Voose.

Economy

The economic center of the country community is located in the main town Komsi with its wire production. In addition, the ferry port of Virtsu has great economic importance. In Virtsu, the most populous city of the rural community, is also one of the largest wind farms in the Republic of Estonia.
