Hanksville is a small town in eastern Wayne County.
Geography
Hanksville is located at the junction of Utah State Route 24 and Utah State Route 95, south of the confluence of the Fremont River and Muddy Creek. Both form the Dirty Devil River, which flows into the Colorado River.
History
The village was first established in 1882 under the name of Grave 's Valley. The name of Hanksville got the place in 1885. Was named after the Mormon Pioneer Ebenezer Hanks. Later Hanksville became known as a supply station for Butch Cassidy and his gang.
