Hanno Drechsler

Hanno Drechsler ( born March 24, 1931 in Schonheide; † January 4, 2003 in Marburg ) was a German politician (SPD) and 1970-1992 mayor of Marburg.

Life

The education and training program for middle school teachers ( who is qualified for the upper 1955) in Sachsen followed in 1955, the relocation turner to West Germany. Honors

For his services to the local politics, he was awarded among others with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany 1st class, the Order of Merit of the Federal State of Hesse and the Freiherr- vom-Stein- badge. Drechsler was also an honorary citizen of Poitiers, a twin town of Marburg. He was one of the initiators of the partnership between the two famous cities of St.. Elizabeth ( Elizabeth of Thuringia ), namely between the Hessian Marburg and Eisenach (1987); the partnership agreement has been ratified solemnly on 27 May 1988 in the auditorium of the Philipps University in Marburg and on 10 June 1988, the Wartburg in Eisenach. He was also awarded the Order of the Yugoslavian flag with golden ring for his services to the close union with the city of Maribor. What matters to was also the dialogue with the former Jewish citizens of Marburg and the reopening of a synagogue and the rebirth of a Jewish community; this he has also received numerous awards.

On the occasion of its adoption into retirement Drechsler was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Marburg on 16 December 1992.
