Hanns Georgi

Hanns Georgi Georgi actually Curt John ( born September 21, 1901 in Dresden, † October 23, 1989 in Malsch village ) was a German painter, printmaker and book illustrator.

Life

Hanns Georgi was the youngest of five children of August Friedrich Wilhelm and Anna Georgi Georgi, born flock Schmidt, born in Dresden. From 1907 he attended the public school, where he illustrated his early essays with pictures. From 1915 to 1922 Georgi trained as a teacher at the free Herrlich of Fletcherschen teacher seminar in Dresden- Neustadt. During his training he met the painter Osmar Schindler, who let him work in your spare time in his studio and advised to studying art. But Georgi finished only his training and worked from 1922 to 1926 as a teacher in Hermsdorf.

1921 Georgi met his future wife, Elfriede angels, whom he married in 1929. With her he had three children: Dieter (1932 ), Heinrich ( 1938) and Ulrich (1942 ). 1923 Georgi had his first major exhibition in Sebnitz, where he showed paintings, watercolors, drawings and etchings. From 1926 to 1931 Georgi studied at the University of Leipzig German, history, philosophy and pedagogy. From 1928 Sebnitz became his permanent residence. In 1931 he received his doctorate Dr. phil. at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig.

From March 1931 until the spring of 1933 Georgi was a scientific assistant at the Pedagogical Institute of the Technical University Dresden. From 1933 to 1939 he worked as a teacher in the city school in Sebnitz. In April 1933, Georgia also joined the Nazi party, in the hope of being able to be active in the academic teacher training again. In the following years, Georgi painted a lot and made ​​trips to Sassnitz, Stettin and the Bohemian Central Mountains. 1936 failed applying for a better job in the teaching profession.

In August 1938, he completed a reserve for exercise training as an artilleryman in Frankenberg. On August 25, 1939 Georgi was drafted and only took part in the Polish campaign, then later at the Battle of France. From September 1940 he worked as a teacher in Sebnitz again. From 1941 to 1945 Georgi built in Bischofswerda a teacher training institution on with. In 1945, he was used in the last weeks of the war to serve in the Volkssturm. In 1945, after his release from the education service, Georgi worked as a freelance painter and printmaker. 1947-1949 Georgi was called to the jury of the donated by the city of Zwickau Max Pechstein price.
