Hannu Kapanen

Hannu Kapanen ( born March 13, 1951 in Kontiolahti ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player and coach who played in the SM- liiga, among other things for the Jokerit Helsinki HIFK Helsinki and Joensuu Jokipojat in its active from 1970 to 1985. His two sons Sami and Kimmo are also professional hockey players.

Career

Hannu Kapanen began his career as a hockey player in the 1970/71 season at HJK Helsinki. It was followed by a season at Karhu -Kissat Helsinki, before he again for HJK and Karhu -Kissat stood alternately on the ice. Before the season 1974/75 Kapanen received a contract with Jokerit Helsinki, for the first in the SM- sarja and in 1975 he was the following three seasons in the SM- liiga active. In the summer of 1977, the attackers received a contract with their league rivals HIFK Helsinki, with which he became Finnish Champion 1980. He then moved into the second class I divisioona in which he played until his retirement in late 1985 for Jokipojat Joensuu.

Following his playing career Kapanen was coach at KalPa Kuopio in the SM- liiga, which he supervised in the 1993/94 season. With his team but he missed tenth the playoffs, so he left the club after the season. Then he signed a contract with their league rivals HIFK Helsinki, which he has edited the following two seasons before he took over as coach at HPK Hämeenlinna, with whom he became in 1997 a third party. For this success, he was also awarded the Kalevi Numminen - Trophy as the best coach of the season. Further stations for Kapanen as head coach were Jokerit Helsinki in the game in 1998/ 99 and the Espoo Blues zwischen 2001 and 2003.

In 2005 Kapanen was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.

Internationally

For Finland Kapanen took part in the A World Championship in 1976. In addition, he was in the squad of Finland at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in the same year. In 1998, he won the Junior World Championship as head coach of the Finnish selection.
