Hans Diller

Hans Diller ( born September 8, 1905 in Worms, † December 15, 1977 in Kiel ) was a classical philologist and historian of medicine in Ancient Greece.

Life and work

Hans Diller was with a dissertation on the Hippocratic treatise On the environment: a doctorate in 1930 in Hamburg and habilitated with a likewise related to this text font 1932 in Leipzig (including overseas airs, waters and places ). The following year he became a lecturer in Hamburg. In November 1933, he signed the confession of German professors to Adolf Hitler. In 1937, he filed an application for party membership and in the same year ao Professor at the University of Rostock. His party membership application was granted in 1940, he became a member of the NSDAP. Finally, he followed the call of the 1942 Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel as Full Professor of Classical Philology, where he remained until his retirement.

After the war, he could deny his party membership before the denazification Commission and was adopted again as a full professor in Kiel. Subsequent calls to Mainz (1952 ), Cologne ( 1958) and Hamburg ( 1960) he refused. 1950/51 he was rector of the CAU. In 1952 he became a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz.

One of his main areas of work was the study of Hippocratic medicine. In addition, he also dealt with the Greek tragedians. For his achievements him an honorary doctorate by the University of Athens was awarded in 1962.

Among his students Detlev Fehling, Hermann Grensemann, Eckard Lefèvre, Hans -Joachim Newiger, Gert Preiser, Seyffert Hans and Renate scenting - Sterzel.
