Hans Enoksen

Hans Enoksen ( born August 7, 1956 in Itilleq, Qeqqata Press Office, Greenland) is a politician of the Social Democratic Siumut and was prime minister (Danish landsstyreformand ) of the Greenlandic autonomous government.

Enoksen began his political career in local politics, first became mayor and 1995 Member of the Greenland Parliament. He was Minister of Fisheries, Hunting and settlements as well as Chairman of the Siumut (Eng. forward ) 2001.

He became Prime Minister in 2002. On 15 November 2005 he was appointed to a second term. A central project of his government was the extension of the Greenland autonomy (of dän. Hjemmestyre to selvstyre ), which should pave the way for a sovereign state free. Enoksens government relied on the expected revenues from the extraction of natural resources such as uranium and oil, which are accessible by global warming and could thus enable economic autonomy Gröndlands. In November 2008, a referendum on the new Selvstyre Agreement was held in which 75 % of the participants voted in the affirmative. The Agreement entered into force on June 21, 2009, ie after the end of his term in power.

In the parliamentary elections on 3 June 2009 Enoksens Social Democratic Party suffered moderate losses, but fell behind the left-leaning Inuit Ataqatigiit (IA ), which almost doubled its share of votes. On 12 June 2009 Enoksen left office. His successor as head of government was Kuupik Kleist (IA ). At the same time handed Enoksen the party chairmanship to Aleqa Hammond.

It is about Enoksen, he only speak Greenlandic ( Kalaallisut ), which is unusual in Greenlandic Inuit often speak Danish.
