Hans Hillen

John Stephen Joseph (Hans) Hillen ( born June 17, 1947 in The Hague) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ). He was defense minister in the Cabinet Rutte and I sat down for a strong national defense in close alliance with the NATO one.

Life

His father was a professional soldier. He studied sociology at the University of Utrecht and held various positions before he became involved as a politician. Among other things, he was (sports ) journalist at Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS ), teachers and civil servants. In his last job he was in the 1980 spokesman for the Finance Minister Onno Ruding and defended its extensive restrictions.

In 1990 he was elected to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament and remained a member until 2002. 2003 he became chairman of the Health Council of CVZ and then moved to the First Chamber in 2007., Where he was active until his appointment as Minister of Defence on 14 October 2010. Between 2005 and 2010 he was also a member of the Board of employers Association VNO -NCW.

November 22, 2010 Hillen gave to his press secretary, that in his time as a member of the First Chamber had a side job at British American Tobacco. At that time, a smoking ban was treated. Hillen said he had the obligatory declaration of his side jobs "forgotten".

Hans Hillen is married and lives in Hilversum. He belongs to the Roman Catholic Church.
