Hans-Joachim Hecht

Hans -Joachim Hecht called Hajo H. ( born January 29, 1939 in Luckenwalde ) is a German chess grandmaster.

Hans -Joachim Hecht, carrying the Grandmaster title in 1973, was until the mid-1970s professional chess player. He gave up the uncertain professionalism for employees career in local government Solingen. In 1974 he married Anne Marie Zeitler, sister of the strong blind German chess player Hans Zeitler. He has two sons, Christopher and Volkmar, which are also strong players.

Hecht 1968 German youth champion in Hitzacker. Two years later he won the German championship in 1970 in Völklingen.

He took for the Federal Republic of Germany in ten Chess Olympiads, namely, 1962 in Varna, 1968 in Lugano, 1970 in Siegen, 1972 in Skopje, 1974 in Nice, 1978 in Buenos Aires, 1980 in Valletta, 1982 in Lucerne, in 1984 in Thessaloniki and in 1986 in Dubai.

His greatest triumphs he celebrated with his tournament victories in Bad Pyrmont in 1970, Olot 1971, Málaga in 1972 and Dortmund in 1973 at the 2nd International German singles championship in which Boris Spassky and Paul Keres participated.

Hecht, the multi- German team champion with the SG Solingen in 1868 and Bayern Munich was, was for many years the Sekundant the German top player Robert Hübner.

Hecht was 1976, the Silver Laurel Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany awarded.

In recent years he worked with the young talent of the chess club Fürstenfeldbruck and became quite successful at international senior tournaments, such as at the 2005 Senior World Championships in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy (ranked 9 out of 140 participants).
