Hans Kemmer

Hans Johann Kemmer (* 1495, † August 2, 1561 in Lübeck ) was a German painter of the Renaissance.

Life

His education was probably around 1515-20 in the Wittenberg workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder. On October 5, 1522 Kemmer is detected in the low- Lübeck city book as a member of the painters Office and a private mission of the climber. The 1524 completed by him climbers altar was destroyed in the air raid on Lübeck on 29 March 1942 in St. Mary's Church. At the time of this first assigned mission of Lübeck art market was still in full bloom and already in 1528 acquired Kemmer a house in the King's Road. Two altars from this period are as sacred art Kemmer in the collection of the St. Annen Museum in Lübeck. Kemmer was buried in St. Catherine's Church. His daughter married the printer Johann Balhorn.
