Hans Lenk

Hans Lenk ( born March 23, 1935 in Berlin) is Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Karlsruhe and Olympic champion in rowing.

Life

Steering studied mathematics, philosophy, sociology, sports science, and psychology in Freiburg and Kiel. He was also a rower ( Ratzeburg Rowing Club ), was twice European champion, four times German champion and won at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 with the trained by Karl Adam Germany aft the gold medal. In the 60s, he was automatically goes to Berlin as an amateur rowing coach and won a world championship as a coach ( Roller 1966).

After his habilitation ( in philosophy and sociology) at the TU Berlin steering taught first in Berlin until 1969 he followed a call to the chair of philosophy at the University of Karlsruhe. Lenk was appointed to the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1981 in the National Academy of Kinesiology, 1995 in the International Academy of Philosophy of Science and 2003. After his presidency of the General Society for Philosophy in Germany (1990-1993) he was a board member of the World Society for Philosophy FISP (1993-2008) and was its Vice-President ( 1998-2003). 2005 steering was elected as the first German president of the Institut International de Philosophie (the " World Academy of Philosophy ").

In addition to questions of applied philosophy ( philosophy of science, morality, art, social, sporting and economic philosophy ) a focus of Lenk's philosophy lay in the theory of interpretation constructs. Steering has also written books on social philosophy, philosophy of mind and philosophy of science. He has published over 140 books (about 30 on sport) and a total of over 3000 titles. In 2013 he published his autobiographical work Ratzeburg Goldwasser - from Lake Albano to Lambarene in which he looks back on his life as an athlete and humanities researchers.

Steering is among many awards winners of the first time in 2010 conferred DOSB Ethics Prize, an honor that recognizes outstanding contribution to the promotion of ethical values ​​in sport. 2012 Hans Lenk was inducted into the Hall of Fame of German sport.
